Stretch Mark Reduction

Stretch mark reduction is another commonly requested treatment at City Laser Clinic. As you probably already know, stretch marks are pink/red, purple, or white ‘stripes’ that are usually found on areas of your body where the skin has been stretched. These areas of the body are usually where you find softer skin such as the buttocks, thighs, upper arms, stomach, and shoulders.

Common causes of stretch marks include;

  • Rapid or excessive weight or muscle gain
  • Rapid of excessive weight or muscle loss
  • Pregnancy
  • Rapid growth (when you’re a teenager)
  • Use of corticosteroids
  • Underlying conditions (such as Cushing’s syndrome) that encourage your body to produce extra cortisol.

Whilst we can reduce your stretch marks, there is unfortunately no such treatment that can completely remove them. So if you are in a position where you know you might get stretch marks (if you’re starting to lift weights or have just fallen pregnant), we would highly recommend starting some preventative measures. To try and prevent stretch marks, try to keep your skin as hydrated as possible. This includes cutting down on caffeine, increasing your water intake, using vitamin E oil, and regularly moisturising. Using hyaluronic acid and having cooler showers help too!

Colouring Indications

When you first notice your stretch marks, you will notice that they are pink/red or purple in colouring. This is a good thing as it means blood is still circulating the area, which also means there’s still time to treat them. After a while, your stretch marks will turn white. When your stretch marks are white, it means there’s no longer blood circulating the stretched tissue. It also means they’re significantly harder to treat. However the good news is that they’re not as noticeable anymore.

Stretch Mark Treatment

There are a different few ways that we can help reduce the appearance of your stretch marks. The method we choose will depend on how old your stretch marks are and what skin type you have. We can’t stress this enough: It’s absolutely crucial to treat your stretch marks as soon as possible! The sooner we can get onto your stretch marks from the time they appear, the more likely we are to reduce the appearance. We can also prevent them from worsening.

When treating stretch marks, we use a combination of;

The number of treatments you need will depend on your skin type as it will affect the treatment and setting we can safely use. As a guide, you will need approximately 10 fortnightly-monthly treatments. During your free consultation, we will design a customised treatment plan based on your stretch marks and skin type.
