1. Why is laser hair removal more effective than waxing or shaving?
Laser Hair Removal safely removes unwanted hair without damaging the delicate pores and structures of the skin. The laser emits a beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicles where the energy is absorbed. The laser energy is converted into heat, safely destroying the hair follicle and leaving the surrounding skin unaffected. The laser beam cannot penetrate past the dermis (second layer of skin).
The CANDELA GentleLase laser beam used at City Laser Clinic is unable to reach any internal organs and is proven safe. Results are noticeable from the very first laser hair removal treatment. The hair will grow back lighter and finer following each laser treatment, and your skin remains smooth and hair free for up to 6 weeks between laser treatments.
It takes between 6 and 8 treatments to achieve up to 90% hair loss of the treated area. After a series of laser hair removal treatments the follicles become sterile which prevents the commencement of further hair growth, we generally recommend 2 to 3 maintenance laser visits a year.
The common alternative hair removal techniques, such as shaving, tweezing and waxing, provide only temporary results and should not be used by persons who have conditions including: diabetes, varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection. Some of the most common drawbacks of waxing are ingrown hairs, infections, red bumps and minor bleeding. Laser Hair Removal is a safer and more effective solution for hair removal.
2. What problems do some people experience from shaving that they won’t have with Laser Hair Removal?
Hair that has been cut by a razor looks thicker because it has been cut at a sharp angle. For the same reason it feels stubbly as the hair starts to grow back, the stubble is unsightly and can make the hair seem thicker. If a shaved hair has a blunt end and hair is usually darker near the root, there is a common belief that shaving causes hair to grow back thicker, faster, and more noticeable.
Hair re-growth usually occurs within 2 to 3 days following shaving, plucking or waxing. There are other drawbacks to shaving, such as unsightly red shaving bumps. These often occur because there are oil glands attached to nerve endings; these oil glands are easily irritated and react to the irritation of shaving. A further shaving hazard is Razor Burn which can occur if you press too hard with the razor or if you shave with a blunt blade or with a blade that’s been left open allowing bacteria to inlay.
3. Why you won’t get ingrown hairs from Laser Hair Removal (and why laser treatment can help treat Folliculitis, a condition commonly known as ingrown hairs.)
Folliculitis (Ingrown hairs) usually resembles acne and is distinguished by raised, red bumps that can occasionally flare-up, or whiteheads. As the hair grows under the skin, it blocks the pore and allows bacteria to breed, therefore creating a pimple. Laser passes through the skin to the hair follicle, where the follicle absorbs the heat destroying the hair and any bacteria. Lasers are successfully used to target specific structures within the skin, without causing damage to surrounding tissue. This provides gentle, non-invasive, and safe long-lasting results.
4. Why is the skin smoother from Laser Hair Removal?
Processes such as waxing, tweezing, or close shaving commonly cause Folliculitis (a skin condition in which there are inflamed hair follicles). This condition results in a tender red spot, often with an unsightly surface pimple. Using CANDELA GentleLase Laser as a hair removal method on the infected area will aid the healing process and destroy harmful bacteria in the hair follicle.
It is common practice for doctors to recommend laser treatment. It’s currently the only safe medical treatment for ingrown hairs. Laser Hair Removal actually destroys the hair at the root, and over time will eliminate all hair growth in the area treated leaving your skin silky smooth, with no ingrowns, no scarring, and no marking. It takes several laser treatments, usually every 6 weeks, but the result is worth it. Remember to never pick at an ingrown hair as you will cause more infection and that could cause more serious medical problems.
5. How effective is Laser Hair Removal on larger parts of the body? (Legs and Arms)
Laser Hair Removal is a technique that makes it possible to safely treat a large area of the body in the one session and achieve great results. Areas of the body such as arms and legs are the quickest to respond to the laser hair removal treatment due to the follicle positioned closer to the surface of the skin, allowing Laser beam to reach the follicle quicker with maximum energy.
Quick results are typically the most visible demonstration of the effectiveness of CANDELA GentleLase Laser treatment. Winter is the best time of the year to commence laser treatment on large areas (because of your reduced sun exposure). So by summer you can be free of unwanted hair and those painful ingrowns.
6. Can Laser treat Pigmentation lesions or sun spots?
Melanin is what gives our skin and hair its color. Pigmented lesions are dark in colour simply because melanin is abnormally concentrated in one area of the skin. High concentrations of melanin can be due to various factors. Some types are present at birth, but most occur with age or because of overexposure to the sun. Not all birthmarks and lesions can be treated by laser however; excellent results can be achieved with some forms of laser therapy. You will need a consultation.
Please contact City Laser Clinic to arrange a FREE laser consultation to discuss a laser treatment plan that suits your needs with one of our trained, qualified and experienced laser hair removal staff. Your laser therapist will examine the area that you want to treat and provide you with an assessment and the expected result for the laser treatment. Some pigmented lesions are best to treat with MedLite Q-Switch laser method.
7. Can Laser Hair removal save you money in the long run? (Waxing cost compared with Laser Cost)
Your average Brazilian and underarm Waxing Treatment costs approx $75.00 once a month. This can total to $900.00 a year, every year. For example if you choose to have Brazilian and underarms waxed from the age of 25 until at least 40, that’s an expense of about $13,500.00.
With CANDELA GentleLase Laser Hair Removal Treatment, a Brazilian and underarm will require between 6 and 8 treatments each 6 weeks, by the end of 12 month you would have completed your treatment, would have paid approximately $960.00, and will only require 2 to 3 maintenance visits a year at $70.00 each. At City Laser Clinic, our clients are pleased to tell us that Laser Hair Removal is a much more cost effective solution.
8. I have a hormonal problem. Would laser work for me?
Women who are experiencing PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) may experience slower results unless they receive medical support along with the Laser Hair Removal treatment. However, after 6 to 8 treatments you will notice a significant benefit and the hair will grow slower and much finer and be less visible. Women can achieve excellent results over the entire body, but to remain hair free on the face, “touchup” treatments are required every 3 to 6 months. Laser Hair Removal can help and control other skin and hair related conditions:
- Pseudofolliculitis Barbae
- Keratosis Pilaris
9. Why is Laser Hair removal a great option for Men?
Laser Hair Removal can certainly be beneficial for men. Unwanted back hair, as well as thick or excessive Chest or Back hair can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. More and more men with excessive hair feel self-conscious in our “Australian beach culture“ and search for more effective and longer lasting hair removal solutions.
There are many solutions that are available but not all are practical. Tweezing or waxing are impractical and often result in unattractive breakouts or infections. Shaving leads to the quick reappearance of stubble. Laser Hair Removal is increasingly becoming more popular, as it becomes recognised as a safe, simple, and effective treatment offering long-term results. Men who dislike shaving can also benefit from Laser Hair Removal especially on the Facial Area.
In addition to eliminating the need to shave every day, it also prevents irritation and the development of folliculitis. We recommend at least 6 to 8 treatments, 6 weeks apart for a significant reduction in hair visibility, providing you are committed to your treatment every 6 weeks you will achieve good results. However, for men wanting to achieve up to 80% hair loss, they may require as many as 12 to 15 treatments due to the higher levels of testosterone in the body. Please let that important man in your life know about City Laser Clinic.
10. Choose Genuine Laser
To achieve the best results be sure to choose genuine Laser for hair removal. GentleLase delivers a laser beam at a specific wavelength identified to ensure safety and maximise results. The energy that is used is applied and directed to ensure an effective and safe destruction of the hair follicle.
Other light based processes such as IPL/ SPL (Pulse Light Systems) machines deliver a wide range of wavelengths and have a higher risk in damaging skin at higher energy levels. You will obtain better laser hair removal results from a genuine Laser treatment such as CANDELA GentleLase and require fewer sessions. Please contact City Laser Clinic to arrange a FREE laser consultation to discuss a laser treatment plan that suits your needs with one of our trained, qualified and experienced laser hair removal staff.
